1/19/19 - Dante Schmid shows flashes of his enormous potential every time I see him. And while it hasn't all come together for him, when it does look out. At 6-foot-4, 185-pounds he has the prototypical pitchers frame for today's game. His arm is clean and loose from a high 3/4 slot that he uses for all of his pitches. Working 82-83 with the fastball he was able to throw strikes and keep hitters off balance with a sharp two-plane curveball at 70-72 that shows sharp downer action. The uncommitted righty scuffled a bit his command later in his outing but his tools show some projection.
1/13/18 - Uncommitted. Schmid is a highly projectable 6-foot-3, 175 pound right-handed pitcher, with a lanky, athletic build with squared shoulders and long limbs. Projectable prospect, has yet to fill out physically. Clean, athletic, easy arm action, mid-¾ slot, whippy arm. Works downhill, stride remains in line, lands softly on the front side; delivery is repeatable. Fastball sat 84-86, topped at 87, arm-side run and finish, throws it for strikes to all areas of quadrant. Slurve is intriguing and projects as an effective pitch at worst, sat 68-70 with it, sweeping movement, at times two-plane, maintains similar fastball arm speed with it. Tendency to drop elbow and get underneath slurve.
