A fourth-year junior transfer from Coastal Carolina, Riopelle quickly caught my eye during his first at-bat on Friday with a line drive, two-run single up the middle to plate the Gators first runs. And, he continued an eye-popping series opener from there with a 4-for-4, six RBI performance. The left handed hitter is strong, has good power (15 HR) and produced several triple digit EVs, including a best of 110.3 mph on a line drive base hit and another at 100.9 on a 408’ round-tripper. He showed a balanced setup and tracked the ball well. Behind the dish, Riopelle showed a near average arm with below average accuracy. His receiving and blocking skills looked adequate and good enough to remain there in pro ball. Built similar to Kyle Schwarber at 6-foot, 210-pounds, Riopelle has too much swing/miss to his game with a 30% K rate, but with a .308 average and ten home runs in SEC games only, there’s a spot later on Day Two for his talent.
