8-1-2018: Here’s an intriguing senior sign candidate looking ahead to next summer. Kubo struggled as a junior for the Lumberjacks, tallying a 5.52 ERA in 31 innings, along with 34 strikeouts and 30 walks. But he’s improved this summer, tallying a 1.28 ERA in 42 innings, along with 39 strikeouts and 24 walks. Kubo has a wiry frame with a loose arm. He consistently sat 93 with his fastball in an inning of work, while also touching 94 at least once. Kubo showed feel for an upper-70s changeup, along with a mid-70s breaking ball. Kubo’s fastball looked a little straight from my vantage point, but he could be a lethal weapon for the ‘Jacks next season if he can create more movement on his offerings. (K Rogers)
