Individual Player Evaluation (June 15, 2016)
Cuevas is a lean and athletic 6-foot-0; 160 pound RHP/OF. He ran an impressive 6.87 60 and a 4.53 home-to-1B. Offensively- Hits from a spread stance with hands up and off the shoulder; minimal take back with hands with an up-down stride. Balanced through contact; short swing path; line drive results with a 2-handed finish. Exit velocity of 85 MPH indicates some power potential down the road. Defensively- Gathers momentum behind the ball; accelerates through the catch; aggressive crowhop allows for arm action to stay long. Clean release with carry on throws; peaked at 79 MPH. Pitching- On the mound Cuevas works from the glove side of the rubber; uses an up tempo pace to balance point slightly above the belt. Separation of the hands are at the belt; staying long with arm action through a ¾ slot. Can get around his front leg to the 1B side with finish. Keeps the FB down at 74-76 MPH; CB featured 1-to-7 action with late bite. Change up was 68-71 MPH with some split like action late. Projectable dual position player.
