An athletic projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds. Offensively- the right handed hitter stands in the box in a tall stance and feet shoulder width apart. Uses a slight double toe tap for timing before attacking the hitting zone. Strong swing. Good use of the lower half. Slight lift at the point of contact. Exit velocity was 86 MPH. Defensively- as an infielder, displayed above average funnel actions. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a long arm action. Moves well laterally. Top throwing velocity across the diamond was 78 MPH. Pitching-the right handed pitcher displayed a repeatable delivery and a projectable arm. Works with tempo. Has a slight drop and drive delivery. FB has late life and peaked at 82 MPH. CB ranged from 70-72 MPH and showed feel for a KN at 70-72 MPH.
July 31, 2018 St. Bonaventure Even setup, physical, knee lift on the pitch for timing. Pitching – long well-built frame, uses a side-step with a high knee lift during his delivery. Arm-action is long and high, fastball is heavy sitting 77-78 mph (peaked 80) from high ¾ slot. Campus Series - St. Bonaventure (July 11, 2017)
Huyler stands in at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.89 home to first. Offensively- Sets up square to the pitcher with his feet just outside shoulder width. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat just above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a quick stride forward while his hands move back into his hitting position. Good lower body rotation clearing hips but could be more aggressive with the rotation of his back knee and foot. Will help generate more torque. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with a level barrel path throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated good plate coverage and line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side. Recorded an exit velocity of 80 MPH. Defensively- Good approach and footwork towards the baseball. Fielding mechanics are clean with a quick funnel into the chest and appropriate transition into the throwing position. Has aggressive footwork towards intended target and made accurate throws. Moves well left/right and in on the run. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 73 MPH. Pitching- Sets up in the middle of the rubber with a high leg raise. Breaks down well with good arm separation into a high ¾ release point. Arm action is tight, could use more of an arm swing after separation. Utilizes whole body frame well during delivery with consistent mechanics. Has a strong finish getting himself into a proper fielding position. Fastball range was 69-72 MPH and peaked at 73 MPH with little arm side run. Curveball was 57-58 MPH showing 12/6 action. Will need more development.
