6/16/19

5-foot-7, 190-pound, strong, thick athletic frame. A right-handed hitting catcher, at the plate, even feet at shoulder width. The hands are loose, pre-pitch movement, lower half is under control, simple pick up and put down. The approach is more middle of the field, line drives, had a tee exit velocity of 83 mph. Defensively, had a pop time of 2.40-2.47, arm was clocked at 62 mph. The arm action is shorter and throws from a lower slot, needs to create a higher slot. The feet are clean and get inline, work with easy effort. The hands are soft on the catch. Speed and overall conditioning are a must will aid in his development.

6/09/18

5-foot-7, 190-pound, thick lower half with room to tighten up top, shoulders and back capable of holding strength in the coming years. Ran an 8.93 sixty yard dash. As a right-handed hitter, Melo works from an open stance that evens up with a small step. Hands work high with some pre-pitch waggle. Rotational hitting approach with a flat setup. Good second round of batting practice, was on time working middle pull. Average bat speed. Can work to engage the lower half more on the swing as it is arm heavy in the present. His tee exit velocity was clocked at 79 MPH. As a catcher, Melo works from a an average, balanced stance. His arm was measured up to 61 MPH out of the chute. Throws from a ¾ slot. Will need to refine mechanics behind the plate as he enters the high school ranks. His pop time range sat between 2.38-2.51. Speeding up his actions and improving arm strength will help that number climb moving forward. Showed some promise as a receiver during bullpen sessions.
