Junior Futures Games: Down 4-2 at the time, RHP/SS Oliver Thulin (Downers Grove North, 2026) came out of the ‘pen for Illinois and quickly took control of the game. The athletic right-hander showed off a big arm, reaching back for 84 mph on his best bullet, sitting mostly in the 82-83 range. He went to a sharp 11/5 breaking ball at 73-74 mph to pair off his fastball, missing bats routinely throughout his three innings of work.
The bats exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach; RBI singles from 3B/RHP Jonathan Osornio (St. Rita, 2026), Oliver Thulin, as well as RBI doubles from OF Jaxson Crancer(Normal West, 2026) and SS/RHP Lucas Simulick (Joliet Catholic, 2026) helped cap off the big inning. Ian Kelly came up big early in the game with an RBI single to put Illinois ahead 2-0 in the top of the fourth, while Simulick added one more in the fifth with an RBI double, his second of the day.

Lean and athletic build with quick twitch. Led off and played second base for Sparks North. Stands tall in the right side of the box, uses a toe tap for timing. Pairs his quick hands with his smooth load to create above average bat speed. Swing works short and uphill through the zone. Worked all parts of the field with his swing. Later on in the weekend Thulin toed the rubber for Sparks North and impressed with his well above-average arm speed for age; arm travels on a short path out of the glove and whips out front to release from a high ¾ slot. Simple tall/fall type delivery with minimal added movement, quick downhill with consistent tempo, short strider, works direct to target and stays in line. Fastball jumps out the hand at 80-82 mph, touching 83 mph in the first two innings with jump and run to both corners of the plate; especially comfortable working to the arm-side corner. Flashed mid-60s curveball with tight downer spin off a 12/6 plane and featured a more firm cutter-type offering with some lateral spin in warmups. Certainly owns upside on the mound with athleticism and twitchy arm speed to pair.
