Georgia Class of 2027 Rankings Update

The high school season has come to an end. At this point this summer is off and running at full capacity. We covered over 250 high school games this spring, and were able find new players, and check in on the names we already know. Their were freshman seeing time on varsity all across the state. Playing varsity baseball as a freshman is Georgia is no small task, and many of these players will be their leading their teams for years to come.

As always, the evaluation process is a fluid and ongoing process with multiple viewings in order to get the best feel for players abilities. It’s important to note that as players continue their development some show marked improvement at a much more rapid pace. That doesn’t indicate that other players got worse or went backwards, it’s just how player development works. As the year unfolds, players make improvements and new prospects pop up on the radar expanding the PBR rankings universe. In addition to the evaluations of players, our scouts, both those in Georgia and nationally, have also had multiple discussions with each other to review our individual lists and then make adjustments based on what we've each seen.

The Top 10

Caden Dawson OF / Blessed Trinity, GA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 1 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 6 / POS: 2

2/17/24: The #1 players in the Georgia class of 2027 and ranked #6 nationally gained some valuable experience this weekend. He saw some big time arms, one being Missouri commit DeShawn Morgan was upper 80’s to low 90’s. He had some great swings on him, and earned a walk. Later in the game he forced a 3-2 count on an upper 80’s fastball, and won the AB with a single to left, then stole 2nd a couple pitches later. Dawson knows he can compete with these guys, and the confidence shows on the field. He is aggressive on the base paths, and puts together quality at bats. The more AB’s he gets at the varsity level the better he is going to get it.

Harry Jones Jr SS / RHP / McEachern High School, GA / 2027

Caden Borcherding C / 2B / Etowah High School, GA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 4 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 43 / POS: 4

5/6/24: Uncommitted. Borcherding has continued to improve throughout a solid freshman year being the backstop for Etowah. Borcherding has handled a pitching staff with multiple D1 arms very well and continued to improve as he got comfortable throughout the year. At the plate Caden has started putting together strong at bats and hit a big time homer in game one of the Elite 8 on monday night. Borcherding stays simple at the plate and shows solid bat to ball skill. Borcherding will continue to develop and will look to carry a solid freshman year over into the summer.

Hayes Maginnis SS / RHP / Newnan High School, GA / 2027

3/3/24: Highly-impressive look at the premier two-way freshman from Newnan. Maginnis took the mound against a strong lineup from Harrison, and dazzled across 4+ no-hit innings. Mixing deception in the windup with great body control while messing with timing in the leg lift. Maginnis repeats a compact arm circle with ease while getting deep into his lower half while getting downhill. Fastball at 84-86, touching 87 multiple times with hard bore to the arm-side. Advanced feel to spin a high-70s curveball with great depth from a consistent 11-5 shape. Showed a changeup on occasion in the high-70s as well. Maginnis did a fantastic job pitching to contact early in counts, creating a ton of soft pop-ups and extremely quick innings. Pitchability really stood out for the top 10 player in Georgia’s 2027 class. At the plate, Maginnis was equally impressive with a simple approach with the right-side. Maintaining balance well, the 6-foot-0, 165-pound freshman shows present barrel whip and length through the zone backed by above-average bat speed for the class. Good use of the whole field with line-drives to both fields. There’s a chance for a quality hit tool here with budding power as he matures. It remains to be seen where Maginnis has the higher upside, but it’s without question that it’s significant on both fronts.

Biggest Movers 

Maddox Rogozinski, SS/RHP, Brookwood

Rogozinski found his way into the Brookwood line up midway through the season, and was a huge factor in their 7A playoff run. He saw time for the Broncos early in the year on the mound with his mid 80’s fastball and the ability to pound the strike zone. The tools in the field have always been there, and the arm strength allows him to make the tough plays at the shortstop position. The frame is wiry and athletic, and can generate some serious bad speed at the plate. He rarely gets beat, and seems to handle velo with ease. The moment never seemed to be too big for Rogozinski as he got called on to record the final outs in a pivotal game 3 with a SEC commit at the plate. He has solidified himself as the everyday shortstop for the Broncos and is going to be really fun to watch develop over the next few years.

Austin Tamborra, OF, North Cobb Christian

Tamborra bounced in and out of the North Cobb Christian line up in the spring, and showcased the tools in the outfield with present strength at the plate that could put up some big numbers for years to come. He had one of the strongest performances of the day at Top Prospect Games last week with a home run off the scoreboard, and a ground rule double in the same spot. The 2 sport athlete resembles a fellow 643 Cougar from the 2025 class, John Stuetzer. The dynamic tools, and strength at the plate is going to make him a top name in this 2027 class.

Malachi Butler, SS, McEachern
+ 32
The former Junior Future Gamer has been on a steady upward trajectory since last summer that showed by holding down the everyday shortstop position this spring for McEachern. Utilizing a quiet, simple setup at the plate, Butler shows present bat speed from a well-leveraged left-handed cut that allows for great length in-zone. All-fields approach with ability to use both gaps with ease, Butler has shown signs of a quick-developing hit tool as well as more power to project as he develops into a lean 6-foot-0, 170-pound frame. Easy mover on the left-side of the dirt with present range and above-average arm strength (83 IF velo). The floor looks significantly high for Butler with an equally high ceiling.

Andrew Brech, RHP/SS, Mountain View
+ 31
Brech is developing into a high-octane arm in the 2027 class at a rapid pace. Standing 5-foot-10, 160-pounds, the upcoming sophomore has shown an electric, high-spin fastball early this summer. Working up to 88 with late life and command to both sides from a deceptive three-quarters slot that generates swing-and-miss at a high rate already and more to come. Slider is coming along quickly at 73-75 with sweep and ability to command the lower half of the zone consistently. Brech has already turned heads this summer with Prep Baseball Georgia scouts, and has a chance to be a household name sooner than later.

Carson Bruce, 1B/LHP, North Cobb Christian
+ 50
The two-way profile for Bruce showed itself in a massive way this spring for North Cobb Christian. Earning quality playing time at both first base and as a relief arm for the Eagles with impressive results. Sub-1.00 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 18 IP as well as running a .494 OBP with 8 extra-base hits and nearly 3:1 BB:K ratio at the plate. With impressive hands from the left-side, Bruce is showing a budding feel for the barrel with ability to match plane while creating leverage well. On the mound, Bruce will run it up to the mid-80s paired with above-average feel for a mid-70s changeup that acts as a present put-away pitch with late fade and tunneling abilities. There’s real potential for an impact bat for Bruce but the feel on the mound only strengthens the overall profile and helped drive this huge jump in the rankings.

Reid Harke, SS, Fellowship Christian
+ 81
Harke is coming off of a huge freshman year at Fellowship Christian. He hit over .450, and was the everyday guy at shortstop. He was able to show off the present tools at Top Prospect Games on Tuesday/Wednesday. He ran a 6.77 with long, athletic strides that translates over to the game on the bases. During batting practice he posted an average exit velocity in the upper 80’s with a max distance of 358ft. He carried that momentum straight into the game play on Wednesday and found the barrel multiple times. Harke continues to perform no matter if it is in high school ball, summer ball or a showcase setting.

Dominic McCann, C, Thomas County Central
NR
McCann made a name for himself during the playoffs when Thomas County Central traveled to St. Pius. He led the double header in hits, and looks confident at the plate off of 2 division 1 commits. We got the chance to see him behind the dish last week at Top Prospect Games, and the tools will continue to develop, but the swing from the left side is going to make him a relevant name in the 2027 class for the next few years. The power will come, but the current feel for the barrel was some of the best we saw this spring.

Hudson Will, OF, Cherokee
+ 24
Will epitomizes the term “gamer” every time he steps on the field. Playing at a 100 MPH in the outfield where Will covers ground well from advanced routes and instincts while putting his body on the line frequently to make the seemingly impossible plays look routine. There's a real chance for an above-average or better glove in a corner outfield spot. Using a well-synced up right-handed swing at the plate, Will does a great job keeping his hands back while showing impressive pitch recognition. Using his lower half consistently, Will can create significant impact in the barrel in a gap-to-gap approach that plays well in-game. This is the type of profile that will help your team win ball games at every level.

Andres Jimenez, RHP, Parkview
+ 24
Over the last year Jimenez has added some considerable size and strength to the frame. He saw valuable innings as a freshman at Parkview with a low 80’s fastball, and the ability to throw off speed for strikes. The pitch ability is already present, and will make him a key contributor on the mound for the Panthers in 2025.

Jonah Winton, SS/RHP, Model
+ 46
Winton worked his way into the Model Blue devil lineup towards the beginning of the year and didn’t look back. As the year progressed Winton became a key bat in the middle of the lineup and making plays defensively in the OF. Winton has carried his productive year over into the summer seeing the ball well at the plate and having some good showings on the mound working a FB up to 86. With Winton’s strides this spring and summer, making him one of the biggest risers in the 2027 class.

Davis Morrison, 1B, Pace Academy
NR
Presently physical at 6-foot-1, 195-pounds, Morrison is coming off a productive freshman campaign with Pace Academy, hitting .300 as the everyday first baseman. Showing great balance while tapping into his lower half well and present bat speed, Morrison finds barrels from foul pole to foul pole consistently. There's high-level power potential in the bat, and will be a name to watch as we move forward this summer.
