Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Evenson: When I was looking for a college to continue my baseball career at, I was looking at a few different aspects. I wanted a coaching staff who I thought I could truly connect with and who wants to support me. I was also looking for a place I believed I could play and grow my skills.

PB: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

E: The recruiting process for me started early when I had my first call with a D-1 college in the 8th grade. From there more colleges started to get in contact with me and started showing up to my games. SDSU first saw me when I went to their prospect camp in the fall of 2023 and then they got in contact with me quickly after.

PB: What are you most looking forward to when it comes to playing college baseball?

E: I am looking forward to playing with a group of guys who want it just as much as I do at SDSU. A team that I get to go to war with every game. Also, the overall experience of being a college athlete, finding new friends, and building a strong relationship with the coaching staff.

PB: In your opinion who is the best player you have faced in the state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

E: Some of the best players I have played with and against include Xavier Neyens [Mount Vernon HS], Ian Draper [Rogers HS], Shane Johnson [Lake Washington HS], Adam Haight [Cedar Park Christian HS] and Teddy Tokheim [Lakeside HS]. All these guys are tough opponents because they all put a lot of work in and have committed to the grind.

PB: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

E: When I got my first call from a college coach, I realized I could compete at the college level. When I started getting invited to events and started getting attention. I was also surrounded by coaches who encouraged me and told me I had the ability to make it to the next level.

PB: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

E: Advice I would tell a younger player is to join a team that is full of guys who want it just as much as you. Who you surround yourself with will affect you a lot. Get in the weight room as soon as you can and work hard to meet your goals.

PB: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

E: The most memorable moment of my career would have to be winning State in my freshman year at Bellevue Christian School. We went 25-0 and had 11 guys on the roster, 6 of us were freshmen.

PB: Any game day superstitions or routines? 

E: I just go out and compete!

PB: Give us a quick preview of what to expect from your HS team next season. How do you feel your team will be in 2025?

E: BCS is going to be senior-heavy while also having some young talent coming up to show out. I’m looking to end my high school career the same way it started and get another State Championship.
