NC Rankings: Updated Class of 2027

Brandon Hall
NC / MID ATL Direcotr of Scouting

As the High School season is working its way to a close and the summer is getting ready to start, it is time for our North Carolina scouts to update the class rankings.  During the High School season, our scouting staff saw well over 400 games, evaluating players and teams.  The process of seeing players play live allows our staff to add to player evaluations that are analytics and statistics heavy during the winter evaluations.

The 2027 class is still in its imphancy with a lot of growing and maturing still to happen.  While our scouts are out during the HS season, we are bearing down on some of the older classes while keeping an eye out for the younger players.  With a majority of the class still playing in JV games, there are still a lot of players to be identified in the coming years.  Expect to see this class really begin to grow after this summer season as there will be several platforms for these young players to take the stage.  Below we take a look at the updated Class of 2027 Rankings.

The full class rankings and the top 65 players in North Carolina’s 2027 Class can be seen HERE .

INSIDE THE RANKINGS

Top Newcomers to the Rankings

Matty Carroll 3B / CHARLOTTE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, NC / 2027

Carroll took over the starting 3B positoin for Charlotte Christian this spring.  In our first glimpse he is an athletic mover with broad shoulders and some strength already present in the lower half.  Facing several big arms, early in the spring, Carroll was not over-matched, showing a feel for the barrel and an ability to spray the ball with some authority between the gaps.  The swing is setup to have more success as he continues to add strength.  We would expect Carroll to move to the middle of the field in the coming years allowing his athleticism to continue to tick up his defesive prowess.

Rankings High Riser

Oliver Van Tiem RHP / 3B / OHS, NC / 2027

In several looks this spring, Van Tiem impressed several of our scouting staff. His overall athetlicism stands out, but arm talent may have a chance to be a difference maker.  While he is up to No. 3 in NC, and will make a significant jump in Prep Baseball's Overall Rankings this week.
