Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Edler: During the recruitment process, I was expecting it to be stressful at times and for it to gradually present itself. Over my recruitment period, I was looking to be able to go somewhere that would want me as a two way player, and overall just wanted to commit to a program I felt had the right coaching staff to help me develop my skills even further.

PB: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

E: The recruitment process for me, started in July the summer before my junior year, I had several Juco and DII schools reach out to me. However August is really where my recruitment took off, as I received my first text from a Division 1 school, that being Coach Eddie Smith (Utah Valley). He had first seen me play at a tournament down in Centralia where other D1 schools had also attended my games and shown interest during my recruitment process.

PB: What are you most looking forward to when it comes to playing college baseball?

E: The thing that I am looking forward to the most when it comes to playing collegiate baseball is being able to continue playing the game I love, and have a chance to possibly further my career even beyond the collegiate level.

PB: In your opinion who is the best player you have faced in the state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

E: It’s truly hard to pick the best player I’ve faced in the state, due to the amount of talent that Washington has produced over the past years, but I would have to say that Cooper Markham [Enumclaw HS] would definitely be up there he has amazing stuff on the mound, and can get it done at the plate as well.

PB: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

E: I had always dreamed of being a college level athlete but it wasn’t until the summer of my freshman year where I realized that playing in college was a legitimate possibility for me.

PB: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

E: The main piece of advice I’d give to kids trying to make it to the next level is to get into the weight room and start building strength. Strength will set you apart from people with similar skillsets as you.

PB: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

E: My most memorable moment from my baseball career to this point would have to be going on my first visit to a Division 1 school, it was an amazing experience and being able to see how proud my parents were in that moment can’t be explained.

PB: Any game day superstitions or routines? 

E: My biggest superstition takes place during high school ball, where on my way to the field I would drive around the round about multiple times to ease the nerves.
