TN HS Team Preview: Livingston Academy Wildcats

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Power 25 and much more.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Wildcats were extremely competitive in 2022 as they went 17-10 in a jam packed district 7. They followed that up with another really solid season expanding their winning total to 20 games as they finished the year with a 20-10 record before losing in Regionals to eventual state tournament participants Upperman and Lincoln County. To say this year’s squad is battle tested would be an understatement. They do have to replace their do it all 2023 grad Aaron Moffitt, who is now a freshman at Tennessee Tech this upcoming year but do return 6 position players with playing time, as well as 4 pitchers that have pitched in meaningful innings. ‘24 MIF and Northwestern Ohio signee Zach Cotterman will headline the offensive production, while also manning shortstop. ‘24 RHP/C Carson Parrott expects to anchor the defense behind the dish, as well as stepping into the #1 role on the mound. ‘24 1B/OF/P Dylan York provides a lefty bat in the lineup and looks to be one of the main leaders on this year’s club. He will most likely move to 1B but can also provide meaningful depth in the outfield, as well as on the bump. ‘24 OF Ryan Campbell is another quality position player that has had significant playing time and looks to man one of the corner spots. ‘25 OF Tayshawn Hayes is another guy that played a decent bit last season and will be heavily relied upon to fill out the outfield positioning, while taking a larger role in the hitting lineup. The team was young last season and still found a way to put up runs as they scored 10+ in eleven total contests. Look for them to once again be a competitive team in a really tough district 7 and give Upperman all that they can handle. Project them to once again get out of district play and move on to regionals where it will surely come down to pitching matchups. This team has an attitude about them that will not be overlooked.
